Painter, drawer, illustrator, engraver, ceramic decorator, mural painter and poet, ZAIDA studied at the Superior Institute of Art (ISA), Havana, and at the "Ecole des Beaux Arts", Paris. She is a multi-awarded artist: first Prize of Painting at the Cairo Biennial (1993), Alejo Carpentier Medal (1994), third Prize of Painting at the Tenri Biennial in Japan (1998).
