In this exquisite edition, Mickalene Thomas revisits her work Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe: les trois femmes noires avec jardin d’eau (2011), her reinterpretation of Edouard Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe (1863). In Thomas’ majestic version, she reflects on her own muses inserting three black women adorned in bold and colorful patterned dresses, gold jewelry, and afro styled hair in Manet’s iconic composition.

This unique multi-layered intricate print combines both digital and silk-screen techniques utilizing trompe-l’oeil collage effects with high gloss and chine collé-like printed layers that lift off the paper. Each print is enhanced with 24k gold leaf and aqua colored rhinestones used in Thomas’s original works and comes framed in an ebonized deep brown finish with 24k gold leaf gilding.
