The Spanish Modern and Surrealist artist Joan Miro was one of the great masters of the 20th century. His bold linework and childlike technique set him apart from his contemporaries and his predecessors, although his style was often maligned by critics in his early years. This signed etching was created in 1975, towards the end of the artist's life and depicts, as indicated by the title, a laughing mole. As is often the case with Miro's work, the linework borders just enough on the edge of abstraction that only the title can pull the image into focus. This excellent print is signed and numbered in pencil. Provenance: Galerie Felix Vercel.
