Mao from the New York Collection for
Stockholm (F&S II. 89), 1973
Hand-signed and numbered by Andy Warhol
(unique variant).
With the help of a photocopier, 300
consecutive copies of an original Mao drawing were made, with each
copy serving as the basis for the next. Due to an anti-counterfeiting
mechanism built into the copier, the image of Mao was slightly
enlarged with each iteration, leading to progressive distortion. By
the final print, the image had become completely abstract.
