The 185-year-old varnish was partially removed in 2020. The chromatic values of the individual colors and the chiaroscuro contrasts against the tonal unity were thus preserved. Individual areas such as birds in the sky or the quarry workers pulling large blocks of stone with a rope were revealed. On one stone block is the Christogram, another symbol is on the stone block behind it. One of the two men tries to calm the horses, but one of the four horses breaks free. The dog between the two men remains indifferent. On the reverse of the wooden panel there is an old pencil note on the artist, remnants of collector's labels and the number 24.
