Séduit par La dame à l’hermine de Léonard de Vinci, Philippe Dutilleul a cherché à « libérer » ce personnage qu’il trouve durement étouffé par le fond noir en aplat. De plus, d’après les historiens, ce fond ne serait qu’un repeint.
Ainsi Philippe Dutilleul a placé ce portrait devant un paysage vaporeux et onirique, en utilisant la technique du sfumato de Da Vinci. Cela ajoute à l’ensemble du tableau une douceur proche de l’esprit

Seduced by Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, Philippe Dutilleul sought to "liberate" this character whom he found harshly stifled by the flat black background. Moreover, according to historians, this background would only be an overpainting.
Thus Philippe Dutilleul placed this portrait in front of a vaporous and dreamlike landscape, using Da Vinci's sfumato technique. This adds to the whole painting a softness close to the spirit of the Master.
