Description de l'oeuvre

Michel Bassompierre is a historic and major artist of Galerie Montmartre.

Born in Paris in 1948, he moved to Rouen to study at the Beaux-Arts School, where he honed his skills under the guidance of renowned sculptor René Leleu.

Since then, he has played a crucial role in reviving animal sculpture, injecting fresh vitality into the art form that had waned in the post-World War II era.

Beyond a mere revival, Michel Bassompierre's work represents a true rejuvenation, characterized by the focus on the rounded, soft forms of animals—an approach uncommon at the time.

Spending countless hours studying the poses and behaviors of living creatures, he describes his creative process as one involving four distinct personas: the animal specialist, the anatomist, the draftsman, and the sculptor.

Together, these facets encapsulate his artistic fervor and dedication to capturing the essence of the natural world.
