"Dan S" is a well-known photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe, created in 1980 and part of the Z Portfolio. It is part of his body of work that explores themes of identity, sexuality, and the human form through stark and provocative imagery. The photograph is a gelatin silver print, flush-mounted on board. According to the Mapplethorpe Foundation, this particular photograph is a “unique” artist proof "c of 12" presentation in the “square” format. The other known copies of this photo are from the edition of 15, which has different dimensions.
