He is one of the most important members of the Italian Transavanguardia movement (movement known in Europe also with the name of Neo-expressionism), together with Francesco Clemente, Mimmo Paladino, Nicola De Maria and Enzo Cucchi.
The movement founded by the critic Achille Bonito Oliva reached its peak in the eighties.
