Velda Ponti was born in 1934 in Faenza, Emilia Romagna, Italy.
A careful observer of the beauties of nature since she was a child, she has always faced them in a contemplative yet critical way, driven by the desire to interpret it.
While still a child, she suffered the violent impressions of the war at the end of which, at only 14 years old, she enrolled in Francesco Nonni's school of painting and sculpture to learn the techniques, mainly pictorial, that would serve to express the anguish and violence in her "naturalistic" sky that would continue for several years, from the metamorphosis of plants into terrifying animals, to the enlargement of details that result in a brutal, almost hopeless gigantism.
