Raymond James Coxon (1896-1997) was a British aertist who painted landscape, portrait and abstract works in both oil and watercolour. He served as a War Artist during WW2 and was a member of the London Group of artists. He and his wife were very close friends with Henry Moore and his wife. Both men attended as Best Man to each of their weddings and remained friends. Coxon's work after the War became more abstract but continued the subject of landscape throughout his life. He spent time in France, sometimes with Moore, visiting Maillol, Bonnard and other top artists, including Picasso. This work probably dates from a time when he was travelling in the Pyrenees.
