Paul Jenkins was born on July 12, 1923, in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. He studied at the Art
Students League of New York and began his career as a representational painter. However, he
later gravitated towards abstraction and became associated with the Abstract Expressionist
movement.
Jenkins' style is characterized by his use of unconventional techniques and his fascination with
the interaction of paint and water. He often employed a process called "pouring," in which he
would apply diluted pigments onto the canvas, allowing them to flow and mix organically. This
technique created dynamic, flowing compositions with vibrant, translucent colors.
Jenkins' works often convey a sense of fluidity and movement, evoking the natural elements of
water and air. His paintings are known for their ethereal and atmospheric qualities, often
described as evocative of landscapes, cosmic phenomena, or the inner workings of the
subconscious mind.
