Description de l'oeuvre

The work has a signature "Chagall Vence 1951".

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by the Comité Chagall.

In 1948, Chagall followed Pablo Picasso into ceramics. He moved to the Cote d'Azur and rented a studio in the town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, where Picasso experimented with potteries and ceramics at the “Madura” workshop. Chagall not only often visited Picasso, but also sometimes worked with him in the same studio. But unlike Pablo, Chagall was more interested not in the plastic shape of the product, but in a decorative painting, which he performed by hand and gave a unique look to the art piece. Chagall himself worked with clay and sculpted original shapes, revealing himself as a ceramic artist. He did not create mass-produced pottery, he was interested only in unique things - that is why Chagall ceramics are extremely rare.
