Swiss artist Peter Braeuninger creates dark post-industrial landscapes in which past and present merge, as in this fantastic view of two ships crossing – one a steamship, the other a masted sailing ship – in a vast underground cavern with industrial buildings on a hill and a railway station like dome overhead.

Peter Bräuninger was born in Cham om 1948 and grew up on Lake Zurich. He studied in New York at the Pratt Institute, and has worked in the United States, Italy, Austria, Germany and France.  Married to the artist Anna Gridazzi, he divides his time between the port cities of Genua and Hamburg.  Ports are a major theme of his work
