Jef Van Tuerenhout was a Belgian artist born in Mechelen in 1926 and died in Wenduine in 2006. He was a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, graphic artist and jewelry designer. Training in painting and sculpture at Sint-Lukas in Brussels (1941-1945). Exhibited in 1949 with P. Mara, L. Peire, G. Bertrand, J. Cox and P. Van Hoeydonck at the exhibition "Contemporary painting in Belgium". Established in Ostend in 1954. In 1965 he came in contact with Max Ernst and S. Dali. His oeuvre pays tribute to the woman, the muse and sparkler of all urges. From the press: “In general, his style evolved from expressionism over primitivism to an erotically tinted, metaphysical realism. Starting from expressionism, he initially built up powerful figures in typical Flemish earth colors. He gradually focused on the female figure as an inspiring muse.
