Henry Geldzahler, American, 1935-1994, was a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art serving as Curator of American Art and later as Curator of 20th Century Art. He left the Museum in 1978 to become the New York City Commissioner of Cultural Affairs in the Koch Administration. Subsequently he worked with PS 1 and the Dia Foundation. He was a close of friend of David Hockney, and sat as a subject for paintings, drawings, and prints by Hockney.
