The figure in the foreground on the left undoubtedly represents God who imposes himself in the image facing the characters of the city who are at the same time called to order by the angel with the trumpet in the
background. Two females are obviously nude and the man has his sex covered by a tree leaf. In his paintings, figure and landscape he entered into a religious and social connection and it is what we have here a biblical scene involving social characters. In the years 1925-30 he was still in religious scenes as with his students in his “Lectures on artistic means of expression” in numerous instances kept at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. In October of 1929, a worldwide depression began. Germany felt the effects almost immediately. The misery years of unemployment colored everyone the same shade of gray. (main colour ambiance of the artwork). The radiance and color of particular occupations were lost in the gray of welfare misery.
