Marjosch's works can be assigned to non-representational painting with influences from Constructivism .

In the 1970s, Marjosch devoted his works to socially critical themes, which he implemented in the form of collages and sculptures. At the same time, his style of painting developed from a realistic representation of nature to an ever-stronger abstraction, which from the 1990s resulted in a forced abstract representation, the artist sees his pictures as a reflection of the social conditions and events of the present, without a realistic representation. Scholkmann studied from 1957 to 1960 at the Higher Technical School for Graphic Arts in Stuttgart  he spent time studying and working in Ulm and Nantes, as well as longer trips to Italy, Yugoslavia, Spain and the Netherlands.

Martin Johannes Scholkmann died on February 9, 2013 at the age of 74.
