Raoul Pharasyn was a Belgian artist born in Lokeren in 1908 and died there in 1991. He was a painter. From 1922 followed evening classes in the Municipal School for "Technical and Vocational Teaching" in Lokeren, directed by Prosper Callebaut. After military service, a few years of studying at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas (1929-1930) and after an accident (1936) at the Academy in Antwerp. Preference for church interiors, but also painted rural scenes, cityscapes, fairground scenes, professional interiors, still lifes and figures. "Realistic design with a sharp eye for architectural and ornamental details." From the press: "Initially, his church interiors were dark and melancholy. Later he knows how to bring his own atmosphere and light into canvas in those interiors." He worked professionally as an advertising painter. Lived in Antwerp for quite some time. Retrospectives in Lokeren in 1973.
