Description de l'oeuvre
Extremely  rare and early Menkes. Circa 1923-1924. It is oil on canvas laid down on cardboard, Signed Menkes and inscribedParis, Champs Elysees, lower right. It comes from the collection  of an elderly Polish Jewish lady, Holocaust survivor, Who lives in NYC, who is originally from Lwow. Her late father is a famous Polish painter, who was murdered by the Nazis during the war. Her Grandmother, the late Mrs. Helena Lind, originally from Lwow, sponsored Menkes when he went to Paris in 1923. Mrs. Lind received the painting from Menkes In gratitude  as a gift when he came to visit in Lwow sometime later in the 1920s.
I attached an image of an old photo from the 1920s where you can see the young Menkes in his studio in Lwow and to the right of him are 2 women, the woman seated on the chair is the Late Helena Lind.
The painting was hidden during the war at a friend of Mrs. Lind in Poland and after the war Mrs. Lind transferred her painting to her home in Israel.
