Description de l'oeuvre

Oil on canvas representing a genre scene in ancient Egypt.
A rich merchant seems to be charming a harp player, while a character accompanied by two Nubians observes the scene from a balcony in the left background. It seems to take place in a temple or a rich residence. We see Hathoric pillars, a Sphynx, and many hieroglyphic inscriptions.
Egyptomania, born after Bonaparte's expedition, and transcribed in "The description of Egypt" of 1809, knew an exceptional craze that even China and India did not arouse.
Signed lower right De GIACOMI, dated 1888.
Eugenio De Giacomi born in Modena in 1852, and died in 1917, was a student at the Fine Arts of this city (l'Atestina) directed by Adeodato Malatesta.
Canvas and original frame, a piece placed at the back.
Very nice decorative effect.
