Despite the sobriety of this piece, the author reveals through a theme of great artistic tradition a great skill and knowledge of the history of art. The classical composition, with the main element in the centre, is dynamic thanks to the arrangement of the flowers. The finish of the flowers and their diversity in terms of species and tonality denote the great technical quality, so that the image shows a realistic finish that does not forsake beauty. The pastel tones and the gradations of colour, especially in the roses, model the flowers in a truthful and harmonious way.
He was a Spanish painter of the 18th century who remained closer to the late Rococo style represented by Watteau than to the Neoclassicism that prevailed under the influence of Mengs. In 1788 he entered the Academy, at the same time as Francisco de Goya, and was allowed to return to the court.
Works by Paret are kept in important museums such as the Lázaro Galdiano, the Prado Museum, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum...
