Acrylic paint on board unsigned. Private collection of Bryan Pearson, Iqaluit. First Mayor of Iqaluit, capital city of Nunavut in Canada. Bryan Pearson (1934-2016) was a businessman and politician from the Northwest Territories of Canada which is now called Nunavut. In 1957 he moved to Apex, an Inuit community near Iqaluit to work at Frobisher Bay Air Force Base. Following a fire, he organized with others the first council local community of which he becomes president. And in 1970, he was first elected representative of the Northwest Territories for the Eastern Arctic Electoral District until 1975 when he became the representative of the new electoral district of New Baffin. In 1979, Pearson was elected as the first mayor of Iqaluit and re-elected until 1985. He was described as a colorful and passionate personality, attentive to his family as well as to the city of Iqaluit where he lived most of his life.
