Alexander Kosolapov, Russian-American sculptor and painter. Born 1943 in Moscow, he immigrated to the US in 1975. He lives and works in New York.
One of Alexander Kosolapov’s contemporary pieces is McLenin’s - a classic example of experiementing with the aesthetics of American Pop Art turning it into (Russian) Sots-Art.
Kosolapov’s work shows how our world can be manipulated by political propaganda and commercial consumerism.
I met Alexander Kosolapov during my working period at Avantgarde Gallery in Berlin in 1993, in Los Angeles where I lived around 1997 and visited his studio in New York.
Selected Exhibitions of Alexander Kosolapov:
Most Street, Moscow, in 1974,
Galerie Anna Friebe, Cologne,
Montgomery Hall at St. Mary College in Maryland in 1978,
