A leafy summer tree framed by a sky of mauve, amber and cerulean dominates the picture plane of this acrylic on board by Peter Hoffer. The artist's skilled rendering reminiscent of the landscapes of Lorraine or Constable is scarified then finished with a layer of resin, a practice of the 18th and 19th Parisien Salons. Not tied to place or time, the painting that is now more object d'art than mimetic landscape evokes nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods.

Peter Hoffer (b. Brantford, ON 1965) holds a MFA from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and the Ontario College of Art. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris and now divides his time between Montreal and Berlin. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong.
