The iconic presence of a Mountie in red serge on a ghostly white horse is set against the backdrop of a mountain landscape. Peter Hoffer's epic paintings evoke nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods. Here he seems to look to the sublime in the 18th century paintings of John Constable. In his expansive, romantic landscapes Constable would indicate the presence of man in nature through the use of red.

Peter Hoffer (b. Brantford, ON 1965) holds a MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and the Ontario College of Art. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris and now divides his time between Montreal and Berlin. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong.
