Judicial Expert from the Court of Appel. Provenance : Mr de Gouvieff (Nov.1833) - Barcelona Menorca private collection (bought in Paris around 1920). The 1898 book of Armand Dayot “Les Vernet” in pages 213 to 228, lists the Orientalist paintings sold by H.Vernet to private buyers from 1834 after his discovery of Algeria. In Vernet accountancy book, the painting of “Arabs” sold in November 1833 was a repetition in the sense of the first painting of his Arabs scenes. Exercising himself in the hunts theme with these “Arabs in a hunting scene” of our painting. A repetition enoughly finalized to start of the same financial basis of 8000 francs as the painting of hunts of boars in 1835 (sized 101x129cm) and of lions hunt in Nov.
1836 (sized 54,6x80cm) three years later. Our “Lions hunt” sized 92,5x123,5cm is +63% in height and +51% in width than the one of the London Wallace collection sized 54,6x80cm. Detailed study on 19 pages on request.
