Joe Farfard was known for his poignant and sympathetic depictions of farm animals. This patinated bronze of a birthing cow is inscribed with a signature, date and edition number, 1/5. A certificate of authenticity accompanies this sculpture.

Joe Fafard was named an Officer the Order of Canada in 1981 and received honorary doctorates from the University of Regina, the University of Manitoba in 2007 and the U. of Saskatchewan in 2012. The National Gallery of Canada with the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina mounted a retrospective exhibition of the artist’s work that toured to six venues between 2007 and 2009. Fafard's artworks are held in major museum collections including the National Gallery of Canada.
