Painter, he is that of picturesque countryside, maritime  landscapes and twilight and misty atmospheres, of immediacy. An illustrator, he specialized in etching, starting with his first etching around 1873-1874. during his career, he produced around a hundred oil paintings and 190 engravings. Influenced by Eugène Boudin, Turner and Whistler, it is part of the romantic current, mixing melancholy, picturesque, vestiges of the past, night, mystery, the fantastic. He signs with his initials FB or BF, the pseudonym “Tohub” (his name backwards) or an owl (“búho” in Spanish).
