Jean-Baptiste Kiya, from the Correspondance and the publications of Gustave Coquiot, points out that the 1900s corresponded to a period of intense happiness, coupled with a mystical impulse, which resulted in the production of remarkable drawings. Angrand drawings artworks in auction are pastels in majority (79%) with only one waterpainting. They represent 154 artworks for only 32 paintings (21%). Waterpaintings are very rare in the end of his life from 1913 to 1926 where he is known to have mainly produced pastels. It is therefore obvious that 1913 and this waterpainting as the other known one were probably experimentations for Angrand with a special interest (1 waterpainting in public auction on Artprice.com in comparison of 91 sales of pastels). And one knows that Angrand was rarely dating his drawings, so that our 1913 dated piece
illustrates that the Master was probably very satisfied of the result.
