Frenzeny on Western sketching tour for Harper's; settled in San Francisco, 1874-84. Perhaps San Francisco's most popular bohemian;" constant debts forced him to leave for Hawaii. Considered to be one of the three "old masters" of Hawaii known as the Volcano School.
