Comments: During the last quarter of the 19th century, Rix was a prominent landscape painter. He was raised in Vermont, and in 1869 joined his family in San Francisco and attended school there. In 1876, he joined the art colony at Monterey (CA), then returned to San Francisco in 1879. He shared a studio with Jules Tavernier and, as a member of the Bohemian Club, actually led a "bohemian" lifestyle. In 1881, he moved to Paterson, NJ; then NYC in 1891.
