Comments: Of noble birth, he won an art contest at age 15 and became court painter to the Italian king, as his father had been before. He went on to paint some of the most important people of his time, traveling to Canada in 1901 to paint the Prime Minister, and NYC to paint the Archbishop of New York. He and his wife, miniature painter Dolores Dolja Dunifer, settled in NYC in 1914. He portrayed kings and queens, Enrico Caruso in Havana, Cuba (1920), and Pope Pius X in the Sistine Chapel (1923). After further travel to Australia and Hawaii, he moved to California in 1926.
