biographie de Ernest CICERI (c.1817-1866)

Birth place: Paris, France

Death place: New Orleans, LA

Profession: Painter, teacher

Exhibited: L. Uter's, 1861

Work: Historic New Orleans Collection

Comments: Was employed as a decorative painter at the Louvre in Paris and came to N.O. in 1859 by invitation of the New French Opera House to paint the decorations and scenery with Louis D. Develle (see entry). In 1863 he also made new scenery for the Varities Theatre together with Develle and Campbell (see entry). He taught classes in gouache and pastel to many artists. He painted some Louisiana scenes and some miniatures, but seemed to prefer making fantastic European landscapes. He was possibly a son of the French painter and decorator Pierre-Luc-Charles Ciceri and grandson of Isabey.
