AHAF SEOUL 2016 Participation Introduction


AHAF (Asia Hotel Art Fair) SEOUL 2016 will take place in the JW Marriott Seoul (Shinsegae Chosun Hotel Group) for its 15th edition.

Opening at the JW Marriott Seoul, a five-star hotel located in the most up-and-coming, luxurious residential district of Banpo, AHAF SEOUL 2016 will showcase further improvements based on past performances and records.


WHAT’S NEW in AHAF SEOUL 2016!

  1. Expansion of exhibition space beyond the limits of hotel guest rooms

Last year’s successful edition of AHAF SEOUL 2015 at the Conrad transformed the 6th floor of the hotel into an extensive white cube area to provide increased space to exhibit artworks in addition to the original hotel guest rooms. This constructed the unrivaled status of the hotel art fair by featuring diverse contents such as luxury brand collaborations, special exhibitions on the Korean Monochrome, Yoshitomo NARA, SUK Chuljoo, and KIM Taeho, all of which would be unfeasible in the established guest room exhibition format. AHAF SEOUL 2016 will take yet another step further by utilizing the entire 7th floor of the JW Marriott to bring about a sensational interactive arts special exhibition by combining the hotel space and digital arts.


2. Promotion for the influx of Gangnam (South of the Han River) residents and earnest discovery of a new pool of collectors

AHAF SEOUL, which heretofore took place in five-star hotels located in the Gangbuk (North of the Han River) area, such as the Shilla, Westin Chosun, Lotte, and the Grand Hyatt, will relocate to a five-star hotel in Gangnam (South of the Han River) for its 15th edition. With the purpose of promoting the event to hotel guests and nearby residents, AHAF will provide special benefits to our target audience in luxurious residencies such as Banpo Xii and Raemian. Furthermore, there will be a month-long AHAF Special Exhibition at the lobby of the JW Marriott, located in the most up-and-coming, luxurious residential district of Banpo.

        AHAF SEOUL 2016 will showcase enthusiastic marketing strategies and take a step closer to participating galleries and guests who appreciate and purchase artworks.


3. Establishment of a cooperative partnership with Shinsegae Department Store – Gangnam branch

In order to secure larger exhibition spaces beyond hotel guest rooms, AHAF heretofore cooperated with nearby department stores and luxury shopping malls such as the Lotte Department Store with Lotte Hotel, and Hong Kong’s Harbour City. This, in turn, enhanced the quality of the fair and promoted the event to the general public, as well as constructing a foundation of collectors by inviting the VIPs of these luxurious shopping malls. Through this year’s JW Marriott edition, AHAF SEOUL will strive to build a strong cooperative partnership with Shinsegae Department Store – Gangnam branch, which boasts the highest sales out of all domestic Shinsegae Department Store branches. By starting off with special promotions at Famille Station, which connects the hotel to the department store, AHAF SEOUL is eagerly constructing a partnership with Shinsegae Department Store by arranging special invitations for their members and organizing cultural lectures. 


4. Strategy to attract suburban and regional customers through convenient public transportation

To combat the current diminishment of the arts market resultant from the persisting economic slump, AHAF SEOUL 2016 plans to spearhead the discovery of a new collector base and the organization of unprecedented exhibition formats.

In order to construct a new market in the Gangnam area, AHAF SEOUL 2016 will do away with the heretofore “ONLY BY INVITATION” format to partially open the event to the general public. AHAF SEOUL 2016 will also expand the duration of the event from the original 3 to 4 days to subdivide invitational and regular guests. This year’s edition of AHAF will also showcase a more luxurious VIP party in order to create an opportunity for potential collectors, while maintaining the high class marketing strategy of a premium art fair.
